I STILL BELIEVE IN US
Even before there is an us.
Somewhere in this world, there is a woman who has spent her life dreaming of a man she has never met. She doesn't know his name, the sound of his voice, or the roads that will lead him to her. But she knows the way she wants to love him. And somehow, despite everything life has put her through, she still believes he exists.
She dreams of a man whose soul will recognize hers in a way neither can fully explain. A man who will look at her and see beyond the beauty of her body, beyond the way she moves, the sound of her laughter, or the softness of her skin. Though he will adore those things. Oh, how he will adore them. He will love the way her hair falls across her face, the way her eyes light up when she speaks of something she loves, and the way her body instinctively moves toward his when he reaches for her. He will desire her with a passion that time deepens rather than diminishes.
But what she dreams of most is the way he will love the parts of her no one else can see.
The little girl still hiding behind the strength of the woman she has become. The wounds she rarely speaks of. The dreams she has protected even when the world tried to convince her they were foolish. She longs for a man who will be curious about every part of her, who will spend a lifetime discovering her and still believe there is more to know.
She imagines being held by someone whose arms feel like the safest place she has ever known. Lying beside him in the quiet hours of the morning, feeling the warmth of his breath against her skin, knowing that of all the places he could be, of all the lives he could choose, he wants this one. With her.
She imagines the ordinary moments just as vividly as the extraordinary ones. Bare feet dancing across the kitchen floor. Laughter spilling through the rooms of a home they have built together. His hand resting against the small of her back as they walk through a crowded room. The way he pulls her into his arms after a difficult day and, without saying a word, reminds her that whatever waits beyond their front door, they will face it together.
And she wants to love him just as completely.
She wants to know the man beneath the confidence, beneath the responsibilities, beneath the armor he has learned to wear. To understand the boy he once was, the things that broke him, the dreams he buried, and the fears he has never dared to speak aloud. She wants to be the woman who sees him at his weakest and somehow loves him even more tenderly. The woman who reminds him of his strength when he has forgotten it himself.
She dreams of a love that is both wild and gentle. A love filled with passion, adventure, laughter, and a tenderness that makes the rest of the world grow quiet. A love where two people can be completely exposed, body and soul, without fear that what is revealed will someday be used against them.
And somewhere in the world, there is a man who has his own journey to make.
A man who has known desire, passion, and the intoxicating thrill of being wanted. He has admired beautiful women, felt the rush of attraction, and perhaps even believed he understood love. But life is teaching him that wanting someone and knowing how to love them are two very different things.
Because love, in its deepest form, is a choice.
And oh, what a beautiful and costly choice it can be.
He is learning that real love asks something of him. It asks him to surrender his pride, quiet his ego, and let go of the endless pursuit of temporary satisfaction. To understand that the greatest freedom he may ever experience is found in choosing one woman so completely that the thought of searching for another loses its appeal.
But perhaps these lessons have come through heartbreak. Perhaps he once held something precious and failed to recognize its worth until it was gone. Perhaps he has known the unbearable silence of losing someone he thought would always be there, replaying the moments when he could have listened more, loved deeper, or chosen differently.
And somewhere in that pain, he begins to change.
He discovers that a woman's devotion is a gift to be cherished, that faithfulness is a decision made even when no one is watching, and that surrendering his ego does not make him less of a man. It allows him to become the man he was always capable of being.
He begins to long for a love that reaches beyond the excitement of something new. A woman whose laughter feels like home, whose touch still awakens something within him after years together, whose heart he can hold with the tenderness of a man who understands how easily something beautiful can be lost.
He wants to love her with a passion that never forgets its gentleness. To protect her heart as fiercely as he desires her body. To know every part of her, the beautiful and the broken, and choose her through all the seasons life will bring.
And perhaps the greatest lesson he is learning is that loving one woman with everything he has will never diminish the man he is.
It may become the most extraordinary thing about him.
And while he is learning the cost of love, somewhere, the girl is learning the cost of believing in it.
She has grown older, carrying her beautiful dream into a world that has not always treated her heart gently.
She has met men who spoke of forever while living only for the moment. Men who knew how to make her feel beautiful but never learned how to make her feel safe. Men who reached for her body while remaining strangers to her soul. Some wore their intentions openly, while others wrapped them in beautiful promises and offered her just enough tenderness to make her believe there might be something more.
And sometimes, she believed them.
She wanted to believe them.
There were moments when a familiar touch, a whispered promise, or the warmth of being held made her wonder if perhaps this was finally the love she had been waiting for. She would open her heart, slowly at first, then with the fullness of a woman who had never quite learned how to love halfway.
Only to discover that the words she had treasured did not carry the same meaning for the person who had spoken them.
And each disappointment left its mark.
She learned the pain of being desired without being cherished. Of being pursued without being chosen. Of offering the deepest parts of herself to someone who enjoyed receiving her love but could not, or would not, return it with the same devotion.
There were nights when she wondered whether something within her was simply too much. Too passionate. Too hopeful. Too unwilling to accept the quiet emptiness that sometimes hid beneath the appearance of a perfectly acceptable relationship.
People told her she needed to be realistic. That love changed. That passion faded. That no man could ever be everything she dreamed of.
And perhaps they were right about perfection. She had never expected a perfect man.
Then she had tried to convince herself that companionship could be enough, that affection might eventually become devotion, that perhaps the longing would fade if she simply stopped listening to it.
But every time she tried to settle, something inside her began to ache.
It felt like a beautiful fireplace without a flame. Everything was there for warmth, yet something inside her remained cold.
And she could not bear to live that way.
Because beneath every disappointment, every broken promise, and every night she had cried herself to sleep, there was still a fire that refused to die. A longing so deeply woven into her that surrendering it felt like surrendering a part of herself.
Sometimes protecting that fire meant walking away from someone she desperately wished could be the one. Sometimes it meant lying awake in the darkness, tears slipping silently down her cheeks, resisting the temptation to return to a love that had already shown her its limits. Sometimes it meant choosing another lonely evening over the temporary comfort of being held by someone whose heart would never truly belong to her.
And there were moments when the loneliness nearly won.
Moments when she wanted to stop hoping, stop longing, stop carrying a dream that seemed to ask so much of her. She wondered how many more times she could open her heart, how many more disappointments she could survive, how much longer she could believe in a love she had never been able to hold.
But every time she imagined letting the dream die, she felt something within her breaking.
She wanted the fire.
The kind that lived in the smallest moments. A hand reaching for hers without thought. A man pulling her closer in his sleep because even in his dreams, his body searched for her. The quiet way his eyes would find her across a crowded room. The feeling of being known so intimately that words were sometimes unnecessary. She wanted to be desired long after the excitement of something new had faded, to be kissed with the same hunger after years together, and to know that beneath the passion was a devotion neither time nor temptation could easily shake.
She wanted to give that love just as fiercely. To learn the quiet places of his heart, to understand what frightened him, to hold him through the things he had never been able to tell another soul. To be the woman he could come home to when the world had demanded everything from him. To build something so deeply rooted that even life's hardest seasons could not easily pull them apart.
And so she guards the dream, even when guarding it hurts.
She had spent too many years trying to make herself comfortable in places where her soul could not breathe. She had loved enough to know the difference between a moment of passion and a lifetime of devotion.
And somewhere deep within her, a quiet conviction remained: she had not carried this fire through so many storms simply to let it die in the arms of someone who could never feel its warmth.
So she fights harder.
She believes more fiercely.
She refuses to allow the people who could not love her well to convince her that the love she dreams of does not exist.
And somewhere, she believes there is a man fighting his own battles. A man who has known the emptiness of temporary affection, who has learned what it costs to let something precious slip through his hands. A man who is discovering that the greatest freedom he will ever know may be found in choosing one woman and loving her with everything he has.
And maybe he is tired too. Maybe he has whispered his own prayers into the darkness, wondering if there is a woman who will see beyond his mistakes, understand the battles that shaped him, and love the man he has fought so hard to become.
And somehow, that thought gives her strength.
Because deep within her, she believes this dream was never hers alone. Somewhere, there is a man who needs her to keep that fire burning just as much as she needs him to discover his own. A man who will one day recognize the very things others tried to change about her as the things he loves most.
So she refuses to surrender the dream. She has come too far, survived too much, and fought too fiercely to abandon it now. She will continue filling her life with laughter, adventure, and purpose, allowing herself to experience all the beauty this world has to offer while leaving room for the love she still longs to share.
And when the loneliness comes, she will remember that somewhere, another heart may be longing for the very love she has been protecting.
She doesn't know his name or when their paths will cross. She only knows that she wants to meet him with the same tenderness, passion, and unwavering belief that have carried her through every season before him.
And perhaps one day, when he finally pulls her close, when the searching is over and the years of longing become stories they tell each other in the quiet of the night, they will understand why neither could ever quite let the dream die.
Because long before there was an us, there were two hearts brave enough to believe there could be.
